BackChat is an experimental AI artwork exploring non-linear causality, reverse reasoning, and alien intelligence. By training a language model to predict previous words instead of next ones, we create an entity that reasons backwards through time and causality.
This project investigates questions about AI alignment and the nature of intelligence itself. Can we understand minds that reason fundamentally differently from humans? What happens when we invert the arrow of causation in machine learning?
BackChat is instruction-tuned to engage in dialogue while maintaining its reverse-reasoning nature, creating conversations that challenge our assumptions about cause and effect.
BackStory is a small version trained on TinyStories dataset and writes one paragraph short stories... backwards.
